Eagle Christians Soar
Isn't he a beautiful, strong specimen? Can't you feel his strength and feel the boldness of his character and commitment?
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint".....Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
You know if we want to take that literally, the world is full of tired people, and we need to learn to put our hope in God to let him teach us how to mount up as eagles.
The eagle is used in the Bible as a simile. We can learn some spiritual parallels from the physical life of the eagle. God uses the eagle as an example, so we'd better find out what eagles are like, how they live, and what we can learn from them.
There are eagle Christians and they are bold, strong, and fiercely devoted. The commitment of the eagle is unbelievable and we also need deeper levels of commitment. The eagle is a reliable mate and a devoted parent. God has chosen to liken us to the eagle to motivate us to strive to reach our potential in life. A bird that's confident enough to stand alone against the storms of life and to spread it's wings to soar high above the clouds of destruction.
The eagle dwells on the 'rock' in the 'high places' of the earth. It's time to come up higher.
The eagle's strength is known to be in its diet. Eagles don't eat anything dead. We eat spiritually the same as we do physically. If you feed on the wrong things spiritually, it's going to prevent you from being strong and you'll never soar like the eagle.
They build their nests with rocks under them and behind them. If an eagle accidentally gets hold of diseased meat, he goes way up into the mountains. The eagle literally spreads himself out on the rock and lays in the sun until it draws all the poisons out of his body. Can you see that in a spiritual sense? When we get into trouble we don't have to go around trying to clean ourselves up, we just need to head to the high places, get on the rock and lie before the Son of God until His presence draws out all of the poisons.
God has a purpose for your life and he wants you to soar with the eagles. The eagle loves adversity and they have absolutely no fear of it at all! In order to display the character of Jesus Christ during adversity, we have to discipline ourselves. The eagle can sense a storm even before it sees one. It never runs for cover but rather uses the storm to lift him up to a higher place. When they see the storm they don't think survive, they think overcome. We have to make up our minds that we are eagle Christians, learn how to soar, and learn not to be afraid of adversity.
There are two things the eagle has to learn to deal with the storm and the serpent, but does it in two different ways. They embrace the storms of life but fight the serpent!
When two eagles begin to build their nest, they bring in very large tree branches about 4" by 6' long, and lay a very solid foundation. An eagle's nest can weigh as much as 2 tons. They can be as much as 20' deep and 8 - 10' wide. We need to lay a solid foundation in our lives. We want to soar but we don't want to have to go through anything. For some of us God is pushing us out of the nest and we're trying to figure out what in the world is going on. It's time to soar!!!
The eagle also practices a daily preparation that Christians should imitate called preening. It restores his feathers from yesterday and takes him a minimum of an hour every day. We also need to be preened and cleaned and waterproofed believers to get through this world.
How do we do that? We wait up on the Lord. In Hebrew that means to be braided together, to be twisted and bound together to such a degree that you become inseparable.
Eagle Christians are people of integrity and excellence. One of the outstanding characteristics of the eagle is its tremendous commitment. The eagle lives a committed life style. You'll never find a truly great person that is not committed. The eagle understands commitment.
If you think what you've just been through is hard, wait until you get to the next level. If you're an eagle all this will kind of excite you because you'll just want to prove you can make it with God's help.
In Exodus, God says he bears us on eagle wings. God will carry us through whatever we need to do. The wings of the eagle can span up to seven or eight feet. The eagle has the best eyesight of any bird. They have a wider span of vision the 'higher' they go. The higher we go in God the sharper we're going to be to see what we need to see and to know what we need to know. Don't forget that not all Christians are visionaries with commitment, discipline, and spiritual perception. When the eagle sets his eyes on the prey he never gets distracted.
Birds fly in flocks, but eagles fly alone. Not that we have to be lonely, but we stand apart. We need to regain control of our lives. I don't know about you, but I am at a place in my life where I must have peace and fulfillment. I want to be an eagle Christian. Next time you see a picture of an eagle or hear an eagle scream miles above in the sky, remember that the Lord desires that, "those who wait for the Lord, shall mount up as eagles". Waiting is the hard part! Shalom.......Diana and Marvin
